Stephen Baamba Albert

Born and bred in Broome, Stephen “Baamba” Albert well and truly has his roots in the Kimberley region. Baamba’s mother worked for Mary Durack, the writer and member of the legendary family of Kimberley pioneers. Leaving Broome for a while, Baamba eventually became the inaugural Chairman of the National Aboriginal Education Committee in Canberra. Moving back to Broome in 1980 he went on to star in the smash hit musicals “Bran Nue Dae” and “Corrugation Road” as well as numerous other roles in television, film and stage.

Baamba is currently Director of the Broome Aboriginal Media Association as well as Chairman of Goolarri Media Enterprises Pty Ltd
